Gang violence in Nashville again: how do we protect our youth?

As I sit and write this, I am struck by the reality that I don’t even have suggestions. Oh sure, I can say spend more time with your kids, know where they are at all times, send them to church, keep them involved in extra curricular activities, love them more, have family nights, eat dinner together, etc., etc., etc., and though those might be good ideas, I’m sure there are many gang members who had those things. I am also convinced that most parents really are doing the best they can under their circumstances.
So, my question is: Is it okay? Do we have to just accept it as the way it is? Would any one of us feel differently if our lives were touched by this kind of violence? Would we have suggestions then? What on earth can we do to save our babies?
